Will Danica Switch to NASCAR?

According to this story, Danica may try to get a ride in America's premiere series, NASCAR's Nextel Cup. The reasons she would want to do this are obvious. NASCAR is the biggest series in the US. Thus it is where the money and fame are. Thus, it attracts all the best drivers.

Danica is a pretty face and a big name. In a sport that is so dependent on sponsorship, this is really important. On the other hand, she has not really proven herself in IRL yet. Also, with the notable exception of Tony Stewart, open wheel drivers don't exactly have a good track record of being successful in NASCAR.

The article makes it sound as if she is looking to go directly to Nextel Cup. Personally, I don't see this as realistic or wise. Nextel Cup has a much tougher schedule than the IRL and the races are longer. She should try a season or two in Busch first.

I don't know much about racing but have been learning about Danica recently and have been very impressed with her. About switching to Nascar I don't know enough about the sport to have a say.

Danica is really the first serious female contender in the upper echelons of open wheel racing. Others before her may or may not have had the talent, but she was the first to have the talent and land a ride on a good quality team.

However, she has not been able to bring it all together for the all important win. That is the concern I would have were I a NASCAR team owner looking at hiring her.

Another female driver to watch is Katherine Legge, though if she stays in the Champ Car series too long, no one will really know about her...

Yah, I must admit seeing these women enter the sport gives me a little more incentive to pay attention.

I like seeing Danica in racing. Especially since she doesn't make a big deal of her gender.

No, she doesn't, but the media sure does (or did). She got a lot of attention her first year in the IRL simply for being a woman. Thankfully, the seemed to have cooled off a bit on that, though she does still get more attention than the other people who have never won a race...

She's fairly hot, though no where near as tall and leggy as a good v-ball player would be.

Its pretty much a moot point, though, as she is staying in the IRL. She signed with Andretti-Green, IIRC.
