Outfielder recalls protecting country's honor from protesters

The Chicago Cubs are the most hated team in the major leagues (at least up hear in Milwaukee where we have to deal with their obnoxious, FIB fans, they are), but 30 years ago, Rick Monday showed that even someone from that team can do good... Let's hear it for Mr. Monday!

My Myspace

Myspace.com has been in the news a lot lately. Most of the articles have basically been the same silly, paranoid crap that you get when the MSM tries to manufacture a news story. I don't really have much to say about that. I just think it is kind of funny how the MSM blows crap out of proportion, and how the brain-dead masses just sort of nod and believe it without thought.

My daughter has been on there for quite some time now, and has a lot of fun on there. It is a great place for kids to hang out and just be kids. Assuming they are smart enough to practice some basic common sense, it is also a pretty safe place to hang out. My advice to parents would be to monitor your kids activity and communicate with your kids, but don't bust their balls for being kids, for talking like kids, and for just being themselves. That advice applies to online and offline activities.

Anyhow, I joined Myspace a while ago, mostly to communicate with one of my cousins. It turns out one of my other cousins is also on there. Then Baby Blogga got her profile put together, so I decided to do a little work on mine. So, if any of the three or four people who read this blogs have Myspace profiles, feel free to add me...

First Brewer's Game of the Year!

Lisa Hardy
Originally uploaded by stuffle.
Today was the first Brewers game that we had in our ticket package. What a great game to start out on, too. Dave Bush had his stuff together. He pitched a full game shut-out, and faced the minimum in five innings. In the other four innings, he faced four batters for three of them, and five once.

On the offensive side of things, the Brewers were also clicking. In the fourth inning, the Brew Crew spanked out five home runs, and scored seven runs on seven hits. When the Red's finally took Claussen out, the fans over by the Red's dugout were mock genuflecting to him. It was truly a thing of beauty!

As it turns out, it has been forty years since any team has spanked five homers in one inning. It has now been done five times, four of which Cincinnati was on the wrong end of.

I have some pictures of my scorecards from the game out on flickr if anyone is interested. The scorecards from this game are definitely keepers.

The next game in our ticket package is 05/02. I can't wait!

Who cares if he had no urge to kill?

Germany (and a lot of the rest of Europe) is just insane with some of their laws. None (or almost none) of the countries have the death penalty, even for someone who so desperately deserves it. I mean, here is a guy so off his nut that he kills a guy and then eats them. However, just because the victim asked to be eaten, the sick turkey only gets eight years.

The fact that the victim wanted to be eaten is irrelevant. Whether or not Meiwes was seeking any sexual gratification from the murder is irrelevant. The only thing that should be relevant is that this guy is a sick, twisted man, is a danger from society, and needs to be removed from general circulation permanently.

Wikipedia

Wired has a funny article pertaining to Wikipedia. Personally, I like Wikipedia for basic information and as a good place to start any research. However, I would never take anything written there as gospel truth, and always do further research. After all, as Lore Sjoberg points out in the linked article:
Well, Wikipedia exists in a state of quantum significance flux. It's simultaneously a shining, flawless collection of incontrovertible information, and a debased pile of meaningless words thrown together by uneducated lemurs with political agendas.
When it comes to fairly concrete topics, the former is usually true. Given any topic where there is a possibility of "revisionist history", especially politically charged topics, and the latter seems to be the case. Still, it is not a bad resource for starting some research on a topic.

BTW - if you read the article, be sure the check out the comments at the bottom. Some commenters prove Mr. Sjoberg's point quite handily.

Sex Offender Killings

Well, it looks like someone finally went off is nut, and used one of those sex offender registries to find a couple of people to kill. While I am not at all going to defend this guy's actions, I think the reactions of some people is rather interesting.
Publicly accessible online sex offender directories aren't available in Canada, and that's the way things should remain, said Jim Stephenson, whose 11-year-old son Christopher was murdered in June 1988 by convicted child rapist Joseph Fredericks in Brampton.
First off, that opinion seems like a manufactured one just so the Star could get their own editorializing put in to the article. After all, this Stephonson character has nothing to do with the story otherwise. It seems that the only reason he is in the article is to offer up a couple of pointless quotes pertaining to protecting the guilty more than the general public. While it appears that Mr. Marshall did use a sex offender registry to find his victims, there is no reason not to have them. The risk that they will re-offend is far greater than the risk that any of the rest of us will go nuts and start shooting them. Of course, none of this would be an issue if they would just keep the sick bastards locked up forever to begin with...

The final paragraph in the article was just odd.
But Toronto lawyer Suzan Fraser said that the Maine case raises questions about possible rehabilitation of sex offenders.
Really? It raised a lot of questions in my mind. Was Mr. Marshall ever abused (his dad claims no in the article, but that doesn't mean anything)? Was Mr. Marshall just nuts? Was Mr. Elliott just on the list for "statutory rape" (boinking a 17 year old girlfriend), or was he on their for an actual offense? If the former, shouldn't we really be more selective about who is put on these lists so it is limited to people who are really a danger to society? These are all questions that popped into my head. Never did the question of rehabilitation pop into my head. Unless, of course, Ms. Fraser is saying that the only real sure way to rehabilitate sex offenders is to shoot them. Then I think she may have a point.

Got Skin?

At first glance, feeding your young by letting them eat your skin sounds like a rather disgusting strategy.

On the other hand, there are some interesting parallels between that and animals that feed their young with enlarged sweat glands.

Pakistan Says It Killed Man Tied to Al Qaeda Attacks

Well, this is certainly good news, assuming it turns out to be true, and not just much ado about nothing.  Beats having to have him go through the circus of a trial...

My Next House!

I want one of these!!  Now that is any NASCAR fan's dream home.

Actually, that would make a nice week-end home.  A condo overlooking a pro ball-park would be far better for day to day living...

Misc Baseball Notes

First and foremost, the Brewers are off to a great start! They have swept the Pirates, and as I write this, they are leading a close game against the D-backs. Thanks to the Cubs winning today (as much as that totally sucks) the Brew Crew could end up being the sole undefeated team in the NL after the night is over.

Ben Sheets had a pretty good rehab start. Hopefully, once he is back, he will be able to stay healthy.

My favorite AL team is not exactly off to a stellar start. We'll ignore that for now.

That other team from NY put on a good show last night. Just Pedro being Pedro. He's still a fun guy to watch pitch. You never know what's going to happen. It was great seeing the fans giving Guillen what-for after his little move towards the mound. Gotta love them NY fans!

Finally, I added a new blogger to my links. I meant to add that blog a while ago, but forgot. If you want some good Brewers info, go check out True Blue Brew Crew.

Update: The Brewers are now officially 4-0, and are the last undefeated team in the NL. Turnbow's 4th save wasn't quite as ugly as his 3rd, but it would sure feel good to be able to let him rest in at least one of the next two games...

India to probe fashion show "wardrobe malfunctions"

From the linked article:
Last week, model Carol Gracias's skimpy halter slipped down to her waist showing her breasts...
Officials were heard to say "we are going to need to take a closer look at that. Yes. A long, hard, close look..."
This was followed by another sensational "wardrobe malfunction" when former Miss India Gauhar Khan's skirt zip split, revealing her bottom to the media...

"Um, that one too. Yes. These are going to have to be, um, 'examined' very closely... Yes..."

Question: how can I get a job reviewing stuff like that?

The Season is Finally Here

After a long, boring winter, baseball is finally back! To make things even better, the Brewers won their home opener... I wasn't at the ballpark today, but I did listen to it over the Internet at work. The first game in our ticket package isn't until April 22nd, and I am really looking forward to going.

On another interesting note, this was also the opening weekend for the MLS season. Last night, I watched a very good game between Houston and Colorado on HDNet. Seeing major league soccer in high def was really cool. I look forward to seeing some more of that.
